Abortion

When I was 19 I had an abortion. I had gotten pregnant even though I was using birth control. After that, I became totally paranoid about getting pregnant. I did not want to get pregnant again until I was ready. But after that experience, I had I always assumed that I was very fertile. I think that became part of my reproductive story: that I could get pregnant easily and would be able to whenever I decided it was time.

But I’m finding out that 35 is a lot different than 19! My husband and I have been trying now for over a year and nothing has happened. We’ve just met with a specialist to start a total workup. I can’t believe this is happening to us. There are times when I think that I gave up my only chance at having a family when I was 19. This is not how I thought it would turn out, not by a long shot.
