A Long Journey

I don't remember thinking about how many kids I wanted or anything like that; I just knew I wanted a family some day. I do remember thinking, sometime in my teens, that I would get married at 25 years old and start a family at 30. For some reason it just seemed right. And my reproductive story seemed to be going in just that direction. Strangely enough, I did get married at 25 and at 30 we started trying. That's when things went off track. We tried for two years without any success, and I was devastated. This was not how it was supposed to be. I started infertility treatments with a heavy heart. I’m now 35; this has been going on for way too long. I've consulted with 3 different doctors, I've had 3 IUIs, and I just did my second IVF. This has been such a long journey.

It's helpful to think about this as a story. I'm still hoping for a happy ending somehow. I've just started thinking about adoption as a possibility. Who knows, maybe that’s how my story ends.
